BILLIONAIRE POSSESSED AS A “HABAL-HABAL DRIVER” TO TEST HIS GIRLFRIEND — HE DIDN’T LEAVE HIM AND EVEN FOODED HIM WITH FRESH FOOD, SO AT THEIR WEDDING, HE SURPRISED THE ENTIRE VILLAGE WHEN HE CAME TO HER BY HELICOPTER
Lance is the 28-year-old CEO of Skyline Aviation, the largest airline company in the country. Handsome, smart, and a billionaire. But he’s fed up with women who only chase him for money.
So he made up his mind. During his vacation, he went to the province and pretended to be a simple Habal-Habal Driver (Motorcycle Taxi Driver). The motorbike he used was old and noisy. He wore a faded t-shirt and slippers.
That’s where he met Mia.
Mia was a vendor at the market. She was an orphan, self-sufficient, and had a very kind heart. She was the one who always gave Lance a ride home.
They soon fell in love. They became lovers.
But it wasn’t all easy.
“Mia!” shouted Aling Chayong, the gossiping neighbor. “Why did you cut off that driver there? Look at that, his clothes are full of holes! There’s nothing to feed you! You’ll end up hungry!”
“Yes, of course!” the others shouted. “You’re still beautiful, Mia. You’re a waste to him.”
But Mia just smiled. “Money is not the basis of love. Lance is hardworking and kind. That’s enough for me.”
One afternoon, Lance intentionally “wrecked” his motorbike in the middle of the road. He pretended that he didn’t have money to fix it and he didn’t have money to buy lunch. He wanted to try to see if Mia would get angry.
“Mia, sorry,” Lance said, bowing his head. “The motorcycle chain broke. I’ve run out of money. I have nothing to give for our date today. Not even food.”
Mia looked at him. Instead of getting angry or annoyed, Mia took out her lunch.
She opened it. The contents were a piece of fried egg and a lot of rice.
“Lance,” Mia said softly. “Don’t be sad. Here, I have lunch. Let’s share.”
Mia divided the only egg. She gave the larger portion to Lance.
“Eat it, my love. As long as we’re together, even if the dish is just eggs and salt, it’s still delicious,” Mia smiled.
At that moment, Lance almost cried. This is it. This is the woman he would marry. The woman who was willing to share the little he had, just don’t let her go hungry.
Lance proposed with a simple silver ring. Mia immediately agreed.
The wedding day arrived.
It was to be held in a small chapel in the village. The neighbors gathered, not to celebrate, but to be curious and mock.
“Oh, look,” whispered Aling Chayong. “The decorations are ugly. She’ll probably just walk to church. Her future husband doesn’t have a car. Poor Mia.”
Mia was already dressed in a simple white dress. She was waiting outside their house.
“Where’s the groom?” the people asked. “Maybe they ran you off! They probably don’t have money to pay the priest!”
Suddenly the sky darkened. The wind picked up.
BUGSHHH… DUG… DUG… DUG…
A loud roar was heard throughout the village. The hangings flew. The gossips grabbed her skirts.
“Is it an earthquake?!” they shouted. “Is there a typhoon?!”
They looked up.
A shiny and expensive Helicopter was landing in the middle of the barangay basketball court!
“Hello! Is there an artist?!” people shouted.
The helicopter landed. The door opened.
First the bodyguards in black suits got off. And then…
A very handsome man got off. In a white Armani Tuxedo. His hair was perfectly styled. His shoes were shining.
He walked towards Mia who was stunned.
The gossips’ jaws dropped.
“W-is that Lance?!” Aling Chayong asked in surprise. “Why… why so handsome? Why is there a helicopter?”
Lance approached Mia and kissed her hand.
“Lance?” Mia whispered. “W-what’s going on?”
Lance took the microphone from the bodyguard.
“To everyone here,” Lance announced, his voice full of authority. “You know me as Lance the habal-habal driver. But the truth is, I’m Lance Villafuerte, the owner of Skyline Aviation. I’m a billionaire.”
The entire village gasped.
“I pretended because I wanted to find the woman who would love me not because of my money, but because of who I am. And I found her.”
He turned to Mia.
“Mia, when you shared an egg with me, I promised myself that you would never go hungry again. I would give you the world.”
“Which Chayong,” Lance turned to the gossip. “You said Mia would come to me hungry? Well, now, I’ll take her to Paris so we can have dinner there after the wedding.”
Lance picked Mia up—bridal style—and put her in the helicopter.
“Come on, my wife,” Lance winked.
The helicopter flew up as Mia waved. The judgmental neighbors were left behind below—dusty, disheveled, and embarrassed by their words.
Mia proved that true love doesn’t look at the state of life. And because of her pure heart, what she thought was a simple “driver” turned out to be the prince who would take her to the skies.
