DELIVERY RIDER BREAKS OLD DOOR TO SAVE CUSTOMER WHO HAD HEART ATTACK — IN HOSPITAL, BILLIONAIRE GAVE NOT MONEY BUT HIS ENTIRE NAME AND WEALTH
Kiko is a hardworking delivery rider. Even though it was raining and flooding, he traveled to buy milk for his son.
One night, around eleven o’clock, he received the last booking. “COD: Medicine and Porridge.” The address was to a large mansion in Forbes Park.
When Kiko arrived at the gate, he was surprised. The small gate was open. There was no guard.
He went to the door and knocked. “Delivery! Sir! Your medicine is here!”
No one answered.
Kiko called the customer’s number. Kring… Kring…
Kiko heard the ringtone of a cellphone inside the house, just near the door. But no one answered.
Kiko felt nervous. “Sir? A person?”
He peered through the glass window.
There, he saw an old man—Don Fernando—lying on the floor, clutching his chest. He was writhing in pain and could barely breathe.
HEART ATTACK.
Kiko was stunned. He knew every second mattered.
He looked around. There was no one. No guard. If he waited for the barangay or police, the old man might be dead by the time they arrived.
“I don’t care if I get arrested for trespassing!” Kiko decided.
Kiko kicked the expensive mahogany door with all his strength.
BLAG! BLAG! CRAAACK!
The lock broke. The door opened.
Kiko ran towards Don Fernando. He put his ear to his chest. His pulse was weak. He was no longer breathing.
Kiko immediately performed CPR. He had taught him in training before.
Pump… Pump… Pump…
“Grandpa, fight! Don’t let go!” Kiko shouted as he sweated profusely.
While performing CPR, he called the Emergency Hotline using the loudspeaker.
Five minutes later, which felt like an eternity, the ambulance arrived. Don Fernando was loaded in. Kiko went with him to make sure someone would be watching, because he didn’t see anyone at home.
At the hospital, Kiko waited outside the ER. Dirty, wet from the rain, and hungry.
Don Fernando’s “relatives” arrived—nephews in designer clothes.
“Who are you?!” a nephew shouted at Kiko. “Did you steal from our uncle?!”
“N-no,” Kiko explained. “I’m a rider. I broke the door to help him.”
“You broke the door?!” another one shouted. “Do you know that’s an antique?! It’s worth 500 thousand! We’ll sue you for Destruction of Property!”
Kiko cried. He saved her, they’ll sue him.
The Doctor came out.
“Who did CPR on the patient?” the Doctor asked.
Kiko raised his hand slowly.
“Son,” the Doctor smiled. “You saved his life. If you had been 30 seconds late, Don Fernando would have died. He is stable now and wants to talk to you.”
Kiko entered the room. The nephews followed suit, already whispering.
“Uncle! We were so worried!” the nephew cried. “It’s a good thing you’re alive. By the way, that rider broke your door. Should we lock you up?”
Don Fernando looked at his nephews sharply.
“Get out,” the Don ordered softly.
“Sir?”
“GET OUT! I know you’re just waiting for me to die so you can get my inheritance! You’ve never visited me once. Now that I’m almost dead, are you here for money? GO AWAY!”
The nephews came out in fear.
Kiko and Don Fernando were left behind.
“Son,” the Don called. “What is your name?”
“Kiko, Sir. Sorry about your door. I will pay for it little by little…”
Don Fernando laughed softly. “Don’t understand the door. It’s just a piece of wood. My life, there is no equivalent price.”
Don Fernando held Kiko’s hand.
“Kiko, I don’t have a wife. I don’t have children. My wealth is billions, but I have a hard time when it comes to family. No one truly loves me. They all just want me to die.”
The old man’s tears flowed.
“But you… you don’t know me. You don’t know that I am rich. You broke the door and risked your freedom to save the life of a stranger.”
“Anyone would do that, Sir,” Kiko replied.
“Not everyone, Kiko. People like you are rare.”
Don Fernando took a deep breath.
“Kiko, I have an offer for you. I won’t pay you in cash.”
Kiko was nervous.
“I want… to be your son.”
Kiko’s eyes widened. “Sir? Son?”
“Yes. I will legally adopt you. I want you to inherit all my property. I want you to continue my business. But most of all… I want to feel like I have a son who will take care of me until my last breath without asking for anything in return.”
“Sir… I’m not after money…”
“I know. That’s why I chose you.”
Kiko agreed, not because of the money, but because he saw the old man’s sadness and felt that his family needed him.
Since then, Kiko has stopped delivering food. He is now in charge of Don Fernando’s Logistics Empire. But more than wealth, they became father and son. Kiko took care of Don Fernando with all his heart, and the world has proven that true blood relations are not seen in DNA, but in caring.
