“I’ll order the finest coffin for you,” the husband whispered into his wife’s ear as she lay in a coma, already imagining how he would spend her money…
But at that exact moment, he received a message that was truly terrifying.
For more than two weeks, his wife had been in a coma.
After the horrific accident, she had never regained consciousness. She was kept alive only by machines. The doctors had been very clear with the husband: the chances of recovery were almost nonexistent. It would be kinder to consider disconnecting the life support rather than prolonging her suffering.
The husband nodded.
He agreed far too quickly.
Because he had been waiting for that day.
He had been waiting for it for a very long time.
In front of the doctors, he put on a perfect performance of grief. His shoulders slumped, his head hung low, his sobs so convincing that a young nurse discreetly wiped away her tears.
“Please… at least let me say goodbye,” he pleaded in a trembling voice.
“I’m about to lose the love of my life…”
The doctors agreed.
He entered the room alone.
His wife lay there, motionless. Peaceful. Almost alive — as if she were merely asleep. Only the tube in her throat revealed the truth.
The husband sat beside her. He noticed that the nurse in the hallway hadn’t taken her eyes off him.
So he acted.
He stroked his wife’s hair, feigned tenderness, forced a tear. He leaned closer, like a man shattered by grief.
And then, bringing his lips to her ear, he whispered so softly that no one else could hear — except her:
“I’ll order the finest coffin for you, my dear…”
A crooked smile crept across his face.
“I already have the money.
All of it.
Everything you own is mine now.”
He straightened up, cast one final glance at her, and was about to leave the room when his phone vibrated.
A message.
The blood drained from his face as he read it.
“My dear… if you’re reading this, it’s because you thought I wouldn’t hear you.
But I heard everything.”
His heart began to race.
The message continued.
“I’m not dead. I never was.
And now, everyone will know who you really are.”
The phone nearly slipped from his hands.
He turned abruptly toward the bed.
His wife’s fingers moved.
The machines began to beep differently. The heart monitor sped up. Slowly, her eyes opened — clear, focused, and terrifyingly aware — locked directly onto him.
The nurse rushed into the room, followed by the doctors.
“She’s waking up!” someone shouted.
The husband tried to step back, but his legs refused to move.
Days later, the truth came out.
The coma had never been as deep as he believed. At times, she had been conscious. Conscious enough to hear. Conscious enough to understand. And conscious enough to record everything.
Even before the accident, she had suspected her husband. She had transferred most of her assets into a protected account and left evidence safely stored with her lawyer.
The message had been scheduled — programmed to be sent at that exact moment.
Days later, the husband was no longer at the hospital.
He was being questioned.
Fraud. Attempted financial exploitation. Conspiracy.
She survived.
And while he lost everything — his money, his reputation, his freedom — she regained not only her life, but something far greater:
The chance to start again…
far away from the man who had wished her dead.
