Lately, Carlos had changed a lot. He often came home late, always with the excuse of overtime or client appointments. His phone was never out of his hand, and he wouldn’t let anyone touch it. My suspicions grew, but I had no proof.
One night, while she was showering, her phone vibrated on the table. Instinctively, she saw the message: “Don’t forget your passport, we’re going on vacation tomorrow, I’m so excited!” My heart sank. With trembling hands, I opened the chat and discovered she had already bought the plane tickets and booked a luxury hotel… all paid for with my credit card.
I let out a bitter laugh. All my effort, my sleepless nights working to save for our family, he was secretly using it to pamper another woman.
I didn’t sleep a wink that night, racking my brains to figure out how to catch him. I didn’t want a scene at home, so as not to upset our son, but I also couldn’t let them squander the fruits of my labor. Then, a plan came to me.
In the morning, Carlos got up early, dressed carefully, and told me, “I’m going away on a business trip for a few days. I might not be able to communicate much. Take care of the child, okay?” I forced a smile: “Uh-huh.”
I secretly called a friend who works at the airport to verify her flight information. She quickly confirmed: tickets to Cancun, departure at noon.
I decided to go to the airport. I didn’t want to make a scene, I just wanted to see it with my own eyes, so I couldn’t deny it later.
Just as I feared, I saw him arrive hand in hand with a very well-dressed, radiant young woman, like a perfect couple. My fists clenched to contain my rage.
After checking in, as they were about to go through immigration, an agent suddenly stopped them. His voice was cold and firm: “I’m sorry, but the card used to buy these tickets shows signs of fraud. We need you to come with us to the office to clarify the situation.”
Carlos froze, pale. The young woman looked at him, terrified: “What’s happening? You told me everything was settled!”
I stepped forward and calmly said, “That card is mine. She took it without permission to take you on vacation.”
The entire lobby buzzed with activity. People stared at us, whispering disdainfully.
Carlos stammered: “I… I just wanted to invite her on a trip, I had no bad intentions…” I laughed bitterly: “No bad intentions? To steal your wife’s and son’s money to spend on your lover?”
He didn’t know what to say. The immigration officer had him sign a statement and informed him that the matter could be referred to the prosecutor’s office for fraudulent use of payment methods.
Upon hearing this, the young woman glared at him: “You told me you were rich, and it turns out it was your wife’s money! You lied to me!” She stood him up there, leaving him to his shame.
I looked at him one last time. It hurt, but I was determined: “From today on, there’s nothing between us. Take responsibility for your actions.”
I turned around and left, leaving him with his pleading look.
That day I cried, but I also felt free. I understood that a man capable of betraying his family’s trust and spending his wife’s money on another woman doesn’t deserve forgiveness.
I went home and hugged my son tightly. He smiled at me, innocent, unaware of everything. I promised myself that from now on, I would live stronger, and that all my love would be for him.
Life may take away a bad husband, but you should never lose your dignity or faith in yourself.
